Spanish lesson #191: Spanish is a formal language, and there is one informal or “friendly” subject pronoun (tú) and one formal or “respectful” subject pronoun (usted). In that sense it is the same as in German with “du” and “Sie”. Both (TÚ and USTED) mean “you”, but USTED is conjugated as “él / ella”.
