How to speak Spanish
Listening Comprehension

In this Spanish lesson we’ll keep focusing on how to speak Spanish and how to listen and understand. These lessons are less focused on grammar and more on conversational Spanish. All you have to do is listen attentively, and follow with the subtitles and maybe the translation too, in order to double-check what you understood.

HOW TO SPEAK SPANISH is purely an conversational class. The topic I chose for the present video is “going to a restaurant“. All that I speak here I made up on the spot. So, you’ll see me thinking what I’m going to say next (I’m a slow thinker). The purpose is just to talk, for you to listen and train your hearing.

At the bottom of the video you will find the subtitles where you will be able to read all that I am saying in English and in Spanish. And on the right hand side you will see text boxes with the translation (from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English).

In order to see these text boxes you need access either my blog or YouTube from a computer. Unfortunately, if you use your mobile phone you will be able to see the subtitles but not the text boxes with the translation.

If you play the video and you don’t see the subtitles as I speak, then you may have to ENABLE SUBTITLES. To do this simply click on the “CC” button on the bottom-right corner of the video-screen (not right on the corner, but towards the right).

You can find a full list of all the video lessons by clicking on the List of Lessons tab on the Main Menu.

To enlarge the video-screen to full-screen size, click on the icon on the lower right corner of the video.

  1. Hola Rodrigo,

Just a tad confused. I believe calamares in English is squid, and camarones is shrimp in Spanish.

    Thank you for the videos.

  2. Hola Rodrigo~ This video is GREAT! It was especially helpful that you spoke SLOWLY so I was able to decipher each word as it was being pronounced and the subtitles helped a lot too. I look forward to more of these as it really does help to get an ‘ear’ for what’s being said. I’m just a beginner and only on lesson #14, so I was only able to pick out a few words here and there, but I’m sure as time goes on, I’ll be able to follow along the conversation even more. Gracias!
