How to conjugate verbs in Spanish
Spanish verb NEVAR (to snow)
This section (how to conjugate verbs in Spanish) is part of our series of lessons dedicated to the Spanish alphabet and Spanish vocabulary. We began dedicating one class to learning common words that begin with each one of the letter (including Spanish regular and irregular verbs). Then we are dedicating a class for each one of those irregular verbs that we learn. That is how we get to this lesson: How to conjugate Spanish verb NEVAR.
When learning how to conjugate verbs in Spanish pay attention at the pattern that repeats itself for each subject pronoun and for each tense. Note that the root of the verb “nevar” is “nev”. Therefore, all instances where the root has been modifies in any way, are cases of irregularity.

IMPORTANT: Since the Spanish verb NEVAR refers to the weather as the subject of the action, therefore it is only conjugated for the 3rd person of the singular (it).
Verbo NEVAR en Presente Simple – Simple Present:
- Nieva- It snows
Verbo NEVAR en Pasado Simple – Simple Past:
- Nevó – It snowed
Verbo NEVAR en Futuro Simple – Simple Future:
- Nevará – It will snow
Verbo NEVAR en Futuro (forma alternativa) – Alternative Future tense using verb “to go” as aux. verb:
- Va a nevar – It is going to snow
Verbo NEVAR en Presente Continuado – Present Continuous:
- Está nevando – It is snowing
Verbo NEVAR en Imperativo Afirmativo – Imperative – Affirmative:
- Nieve – Snow
Verbo NEVAR en Imperativo Negativo- Imperative – Negative:
- No nieve – Don’t snow
The awkwardness of using the imperative for a verb that refers exclusively to the weather is pretty evident. You have to take into consideration that whenever we want to express a strong desire (or “impose our will”) regarding the weather, in Spanish we use the word “que” before the verb. Like this:
- Que nieve – Expressing strong will or desire for it to snow
- Que no nieve – Expressing strong will or desire for it NOT to snow
And this is the same for any other verbs that refer to the weather. However, the same can also be used for any other Spanish verbs as well.
