Comentario INGLES ESPAÑOL del restorán SOTTOVOCE en Buenos Aires
Como ya mencioné antes, la vida diplomática requiere estar mudándose de país cada pocos años. Y esta vez me tocó Buenos Aires, Argentina. Hace apenas una semana que llegué, luego de visitar la selva amazónica brasileña. Y como se trata de una ciudad grande, llena de opciones culinarias, voy aprovechar una recienta salida a cenar para enseñarles vocabulario gastronómico, y comentar brevemente el lugar.
As I had mentioned before, the diplomatic life requires moving every few years to a different country. This time it is Buenos Aires, Argentina. I just arrived one week ago, after visiting the Amazon jungle in Brazil. As any other big city, the options for good food here are huge. Therefore I will take the chance to teach you some gastronomic vocabulary as I share my feedback on a recent visit to a really fancy restaurant.
El nombre del restorán es SOTTOVOCE. Es un restorán relativamente grande, con mucha madera a la vista, lo cual contribuye a dar un ambiente de calidez. El servicio es amable, aunque normalmente todo atrasa cuando está lleno. Y el precio es más bien alto. No es un lugar para comer a diario, a menos que tengas una situación económica muy holgada.
The name of the restaurant is SOTTOVOCE. It is a relatively big restaurant, con a lot of wood in the building and decoration. This give the environment a pretty warm and cosy feeling. The service is very professional, although everything takes longer when it is full. The prices are rather expensive. It is not a place to eat on a regular basis, unless you are rather wealthy.
A la noche es conveniente reservar con anticipación si van a ser más de 2 personas. Nosotros no habíamos reservado, pero tuvimos suerte en conseguir un lugar.
In the evening it is better to make a booking beforehand. We hadn’t, but we were lucky enough to get a table for all of us.
Nosotros éramos 5 personas en nuestra mesa. No pedimos ninguna entrada. Tampoco pedimos jugos ni refrescos. Esto es lo que pedimos:
- 1 plato principal para cada uno
- 1 botella de vino tinto (de precio razonable) para compartir entre todos
- 3 botellas de agua mineral
- 1 postre para cada uno
El valor por persona fue de 900 pesos argentinos (USD 50 al valor del día).
We were 5 people at our table. We didn’t order any starter. We didn’t order fresh juices or soft drinks either. This is what we ordered:
- 1 main dish per person
- 1 bottle of red wine (of a reasonable price) to share
- 3 bottles of mineral water
- 1 dessert per person
The total price per person was 900 Argentine pesos (USD 50).
Como es de esperar en un restorán italiano en Buenos Aires, la pasta es muy buena. Yo pedí un plato de conejo a la cazadora, preparado al vino blanco. Ningún plato decepcionó.
As is expected at an Italian restaurant in the city of Buenos Aires, the pasta is very good! Yo ordered a dish that consisted of rabbit cooked in white wine. None of our dishes disappointed anyone.
Aunque no pidan entrada, van a traerles lo que aquí se llama “cubierto”. Y se les cobrará independientemente de que lo coman o no.
Even if you don’t order a starter, they will bring you what they call “cubierto” (couvert). You will be charged for it regardless of wether you eat it or not.
El cubierto consistía de una buena selecciones de panes de diferentes tipos, junto con unas porciones de buen jamón cocido, pollo al escabeche, y otros escabeches más.
The couvert consisted of a neat selection of different types of breads, together with some really good cooked ham, pickled chicken and some other pickles.
Como conclusión: Me gustó el restorán. Todo fue bueno y nada decepcionó. Pero aún así sentí que el precio era muy alto. Puede ser que pronto cambie de parecer al familiarizarme más con los precios de los restoranes acá en Buenos Aires. Pero antes de volver a éste voy a seguir conociendo otras opciones y lugares.
Rounding up: I liked the restaurant. Everything was good and nobody was disappointed with what he had ordered. Nevertheless, I had the feeling that the price was too expensive. Maybe I will change my mind as I become more acquainted with the prices of the restaurants here in Buenos Aires. But before I return to this one I will keep on looking around and trying other places instead.
