  • Add your answer

CORRECT ANSWERS:
B) Debo irme ahora.
E) Tengo que irme ahora.
I) Me tengo que ir ahora.
J) Me debo ir ahora.

Tengo que” and “debo” are synonyms. The latter is stronger. It’s like “MUST and “HAVE TO”.

debo = must
tengo que = have to
tengo = have
ir = to go
ir + pronombre reflexivo = to leave
debo ir ahora = I must go now
debo irme ahora = I must leave now
me debo ir ahora = I must leave now
debe irse ahora = he/she/you-formal must to leave now
se debe ir ahora = he/she/you-formal must to leave now
ella debe irse ahora = she must leave now
ella se debe ir ahora = she must leave now
debemos irnos ahora = we must leave now
nos debemos ir ahora = we must leave now
debemos ir ahora = we must go now
tienes que irte = you have to leave
te tienes que ir = you have to leave
tienes que ir = you have to go

Remember that if you don’t use the word “que” after the Spanish verb “tener“, it will mean “to have” instead of “to have to”.

The “pronombre reflexivo” can go at the end of the action-verb, or before the modal verb.

Same as in English, the temporal adverbs can go at the beginning or at the end of a sentence:

Me tengo que ir ahora = I have to leave now.
Ahora me tengo que ir = Now I have to leave.
